negated Bangkok and Pattaya, but now that I've investigated the "smoke" (in Chiang Mai) I say, "to
Hell with Chiang Mai", and I'll be going South. I'll find a nice condo outside Pattaya, and be away
from the tourists and hookers as best I can.

Hi! Thanks for the video! I would love your advice. I will fly to Chiang Mai on 20 Feb and planning to rent a car and drive all around northern Thailand for 2 weeks. Do you think the haze will ruin this trip and I should cancel/reschedule? At that time of the year, is it too bad being in nature? breathing-wise but also overall enjoying our vacation-wise. Or does it get bad March onwards? It would be heart breaking getting there all the way from Greece and just trying to avoid the smoke throughout our trip.

it is easier to burn the left over crop waste than to plough it back into the hardened soil, western farmers get massive kickbacks to buy massive machinery to solve this problem ,dont blame the poor thai farmers ,this is a problem caused by governments not farmers ,when i was young they used to burn all the straw in the fields in scotland ,they now bale it ,it is so easy to blame underpayed farmers in thailand ,this is a government issue
Well I was really considering getting apartment there but as asthmatic this is really a deal breaker if its 4-5 months. 1-2 month would sort of get by some how but this is just too much

I actually do very long runs, with an N95 mask, during Thailand's smoky season of Hell. If you treat it like running at altitude, it's doable.

Ive been in Nakon Sawan province for 15 yrs…we're due an influx of Thais from Issan from the North East of Thailand ( bit like fruit pickers back home in UK )…to cut and burn the sugar cane fields..but last couple of years i have noticed they are starting to be replaced by mechanical sugar cane cutters…because the sugar cane leaves are quite sharp..they set fire to the sugar cane fields..to get rid of the sharpness of the leaves and surplus overgrowth and snakes before they can cut the cane..and then they burn any surplus ready to cultivate the next crop..but with the mechanical cutters there is no need to burn before cutting…but by doing it this way its taking the livihood away from the many Issan that rely on this method to make ends meet…its the same as back home…no more corner shops..they been takin over by 7-11 and such….sad but true…😉
